Biography/Admin History:   Taken during Haig's visit on the occasion of the opening of the National War Memorial on July 1, 1924 at St. John's. Field Marshall Haig (1861-1928) was a British senior officer during World War I. Sir William Lamond Allardyce(1861-1930) was Governor of Newfoundland from 1922 to 1928. His wife, Lady Elsie Elizabeth Allardyce, helped start the Girl Guide Movement in Newfoundland.
