Biography/Admin History:   Taken during Haig's visit on the occasion of the opening of the National War Memorial on July 1, 1924 at St. John's. Field Marshall Haig (1861-1928) was a British senior officer during World War I. Rev. Thomas Nangle (1889- 1972) was the Catholic Chaplain for the Newfoundland Regiment from 1916 until the end of the war and was involved in the planning of the War Memorial.
