Scope and Content: Microfilm copies of the registers containing an alphabetical list of the full names of certified masters of the British mercantile marine. The list provides the place and date of birth, the port and date of the examination; the names of the ships in which the person served and whether as master or mate, subsequent to receipt of the certificate. For the period 1851-1948 the register is a published volume. Thereafter they are manuscript registers compiled in blocks of 7 years.
