AB John Speary's auction was a much more sober affair than the 3 day auction of the steward James Reeves, though he too had some surprising items, including a large quantity of soap. His copy of History of England (presumably by Thomas Macaulay) probably endeared him as much to historians as the soap endeared him to his fellows.
