Biography/Admin History: Robert Dougas Graham (1887-1957) served in the Great War and was promoted to Commander from 11 Novemebr 1918, "in recognition of sevice rendered during the War." While sailing solo across the Atlantic in 1934/35, he met Sir Wilfred Genfell in Labrador and agreed to command the Grenfell Mission vessel "Jessie Goldthwait" for the summer of 1936.

The auxiliary two-masted schooner "Jessie Goldthwait" was built in Essex, Massachusetts by Arthur D. Story. She was given to the Grenfell Mission by Dr. Joel E. Goldthwait in 1932. The vessel was named after his wife who died before the vessel was finished construction.
Custodial History: The photographs were owned by Francis Cloran, who gave them to his son, William Cloran. William Cloran donated the photographs to the MHA in 2011.
