Biography/Admin History: The four-masted iron barque "Clan Buchanan", official number 93374, gross tonnage 2140, was built 1887 at Glasgow, Scotland by Russell & Co., Ltd. and registered to Thomas Dunlop of that port. Thomas Dunlop & Sons operated the Queen Line in this period, but many of the vessels were named "Clan". In 1908 the vessel was acquired by Berg Ths of Stavanger, Norway and renamed "Valerie". On April 22, 1917 the vessel was sunk by German submarine UC-21 off the coast of France, 30 miles from Cordouan Light, while en route from Bordeaux to St. Thomas. There were no casualties.
