She stayed at that district for 3 years. In 1948, she became the Head Nurse at the Mission in North West River, Labrador, where she remained for 10 years. She spent her last two years with the Mission in Cartwright, Labrador. After leaving Labrador in 1959, the Queen's Institute of District Nursing awarded her a scholarship to take the Community Health Administration Course at the William Rathbone Staff College at Liverpool, England, in 1960. She remained in the United Kingdom and worked as a Health Visitor before retiring. Charles Samuel Curtis was born in Worcester, Mass., on April 18, 1887, the son of Albert Curtis and Mary Morse. He received his doctorate in medicine from Harvard University in 1913. He first joined the Grenfell Mission in 1915 at St. Anthony, Newfoundland, and by 1917 he was the chief medical officer at the St. Anthony hospital. In 1934, he succeeded Grenfell as superintendent of the International Grenfell Association. In 1959, he gave up his practice after 44 years of service and was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Grenfell Association. He died at Boston on March 13, 1964.
