Biography/Admin History: | The schooner "Josie and Phebe", official number 142072, gross tonnage 138, was built in Essex, Massachusetts in 1908. It was registered in St. John's, Newfoundland to merchants William and Thomas Hollett of Burin on Newfoundland's south coast in 1919. By 1926, Lewis Dawe of Bay Roberts, Conception Bay had acquired the vessel. He retained ownership until circa 1940 when it was transferred to Harold Dawe of nearby Cupids. At this point the vessel may have been sold and re-registered, possibly under a new name. The schooner appears to have been fitted with an auxiliary engine by that time. |
