Biography/Admin History: The five-masted sailing ship "Kobenhavn", gross tonnage 3965, was built 1921 at Leith, Scotland by Ramage & Fergusson for the East Asiatic Company of Denmark. Used primarily as a training vessel, it was at that time the largest sailing ship in the world. Its figurehead was a carving of Absalon, a prominent Danish Archbishop. The "Kobenhavn" was also periodically engaged in the international cargo trade, and, on one such voyage from Buenos Aries to Australia in 1928, the vessel was lost with its crew. It was last heard from of December 21 that year, and no wreck or remains were ever found, fueling much investigation into, and speculation about, what had occurred.
