Used primarily as a training vessel, it was at that time the largest sailing ship in the world. Its figurehead was a carving of Absalon, a prominent Danish Archbishop. The "Kobenhavn" was also periodically engaged in the international cargo trade, and, on one such voyage from Buenos Aries to Australia in 1928, the vessel was lost with its crew.
