Ferroll Myron Gipson was born 28 February 1917, in Peru, Indiana. He was the son of John W. Gipson. He enlisted in the United States Navy on 12 November 1940, and served on USS Pollux as Boatswain's Mate, 2nd class, when it wrecked off Newfoundland 18 February 1942.
