Joseph Meyers was serving in the US Navy on board the USS Pollux as seaman, 2nd class in February of 1942 when the vessel was wrecked off the coast of Newfoundland. He had entered the military in Montana and his service number was 3682870. He was reported as missing after the disaster, and his name appears on a monument in Battery Park, New York City.
