Edward Nanck was born 18 February 1908. He enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve on 10 April, 1941 at New York and in August of that year he was at Section Base, San Juan, Puerto Rico. By January 1942 he was serving as fireman, 2nd class on board the USS Pollux. He died when that vessel went aground on 18 February 1942 off the coast of Newfoundland, exactly thirty-four years to the day of his birth. He listed his mother, Mrs. Mary E. Snyder of Flushing as his next of kin. He is buried at Long Island National Cemetery, New York.
