Glen Ervin Wiltrout was born 23 March 1918 in Warsaw, Indiana, son of Marie Bussing and Creed Wiltrout. He left Warsaw high school in his junior year to enlist in the United States Navy on 21 October 1936. He served in the Navy as Boatswain's Mate, second class. He served on USS Pollux and died 18 February 1942 when that vessel wrecked on the coast of Newfoundland. His body was recovered and buried in the Fort McAndrew-Argentia temporary military cemetery in Newfoundland, before being returned to Warsaw for burial in 1947.
