they did it too. Mr. Burke played for them on his violin which he brought especially for the occasion. He can play splendidly; we owe him thanks for being so kind as to bring his violin & play so often for us.

There was one game we had, I forgot now what it is called; but all the ladies are on one side of the room and the gents on the other side. I headed the girls and Mr. Grouchy the men. Whatever he would say to the men to do, they had to do it. Of course he would do it first to show. Then I would do the same thing on my side, right down through the whole crowd. By and By, when we got them as far as to kneel on the floor on one knee in single file, we gave them a push. Off goes the whole lot of them on the floor on a heap. That's when we had it. I shall never forget when I looked over at the men, to see nothing but whiskers and grey heads all around the stove. I wonder they didn't push it down while falling, however they didn't.

I think it's only right and proper for us to get up something to make the older folks enjoy themselves. I am afraid I won't finish this now before the steamer comes, as she is expected shortly; and must get ready for prayers. Mother is getting ready.
